What is it?
Urge incontinence, also known as overactive bladder (OAB), is a type of urinary incontinence characterized by a sudden, intense urge to urinate, followed by involuntary urine leakage. This occurs when the muscles of the bladder, called the detrusor muscles, contract involuntarily and more frequently than normal, even when the bladder is not full. Urge incontinence can significantly affect an individual’s quality of life, leading to frequent and urgent trips to the bathroom, sleep disturbances, and increased risk of accidents.
How do we treat it?
Urge incontinence is very individualized and can be greatly helped by a look at bowel/bladder habits and retraining your bladder on correct times to void. This form of therapy is “brain and bladder retraining” and looks different for everyone based on their triggers and symptoms. This can commonly found with stress incontinence as well. When they are both present we refer to it as mixed urinary incontinence.

What is it?
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine during physical activities, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising. This occurs due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, pelvic floor muscles that are too tight and/or dysfunction of the urethral sphincter, which normally help to maintain continence. Coordination can play a big role here (using the right muscles at the right time). SUI can significantly impact your quality of life, leading to embarrassment, social isolation, and reduced physical activity.

Stress urinary incontinence is treated with our famous 3-step method. We take a holistic approach and evaluate how your pelvic floor is working but we also look outside the pelvic floor for culprits impacting leakage (lack of trunk rotation, poor diaphragm and postural mechanics, decreased hip strength, even an old ankle injury).
Testimonial
“This was my very first visit with a pelvic floor therapist ever. It was so much more than I expected. I had an overactive bladder issue that was really affecting my life. Dr. Loren Carver was so knowledgeable and had so many great tips. I didn’t realize how many things can affect your pelvic floor. I also didn’t realize how stiff I was and how horrible my range of motion was. I highly recommend going to see her for various issues. I am feeling so much better and my bladder has calmed down!”
Our Famous Method
1. Release
Identify the root cause your leakage symptoms. We will make sure your pelvic floor has the mobility it needs first to become strong. Teach you how to sync the deep core with your pelvic floor.
2. Reload
Focus on addressing strength around the pelvis, pelvic floor, deep core, abdominals and hips. Main goal is to address asymmetries, continue to work on mobility to set you up for the last phase of rehab.
3. Return
This is where the magic happens. In the return phase we focus on the activities like jumping, lifting objects, single leg activities so we can get you all the way back to your desired goal without pelvic floor symptoms!
